There are many things with more than one name or spelling.


Following is a list which will help you to understand and clarify Guitar terminology:


-The “Root Note” is the same as the The Tonic note when referring to Scales.

-A “Machine Head” is also referred to as a Tuning Head, Gear Head or Tuning Gear.

-A “Sharp” is indicated with a “#”

-A “Flat” is indicated with a “b”

-A “Bar Chord” is also known as a Barre Chord or a Barr Chord.
