The Following Exercises will develop fretting “1 Fret Per Finger” & Pick Hand coordination.

and Picking using “Alternate Picking” using the first 4 frets.

Exercise 1. Play the open “High E” string and frets 1, 2, 3 & 4 of the “High E” string using Down-picking.
Start with the Open E and play up to the 4th fret (G#) then play back down.
In the second half, play this exercise using Alternate Picking.

Exercise 2. Play from the “Open B” String to the 4th fret of the “High E” String then back down using frets 1, 2, 3 & 4 and each open string.
In the second half, play this exercise using Alternate Picking.
*Also, try playing the notes with only 1 finger touching the Fretboard per note picked.

Exercise 3. Play the open “Low E” string and frets 1, 2, 3 & 4 of the “Low E” string using Down-picking.
Start with the Open Loe E and play up to the 4th fret (G#) then play back down.
In the second half, play this exercise using Alternate Picking.
This is a good stretching exercise as it is more difficult to reach these notes.  It will require practice.
*Also, try playing the notes with only 1 finger touching the Fretboard per note picked.

Exercise 4. Play from the open Low E String through all the strings to the 4th fret of the High E String then back down using frets 1, 2, 3 & 4 and each open string. Use Down-picking.
In the second half, play this exercise using Alternate Picking.

Exercise 5. Play all 6 Strings (1 finger per fret).  Start on the “A Note” of the 6th string and use down-picking and alternate picking.
In the second half, play this exercise using Alternate Picking.
