“Excellent 4 finger Picking Exercises”

Take a short break from chords and practice the following exercises.  They use ALL the fingers on ALL the strings and will help you develop the strength and coordination you will need to play the notes & chords in the lessons which follow.  They are also great as a Warm-up.

Exercise 1.  Play the following series of notes, first ascending then descending.  Play slowly at first then increase your speed as you feel comfortable.  Practice first using down picking then alternate picking.

Exercise 2. Starting on the 5th fret “A” note (6th string) use ALL 4 fingers to descend  then ascend the strings.  Play using alternate picking.
Note: This position on the fretboard is commonly used in Rock and Blues as you will learn later.
