Fretboard Basics

Fig.1- The Guitar Fretboard

-This is how you would see the fretboard if you held your guitar out in front of you.

-The High E string (thin one) is at the top.

-As you press the space behind the frets moving up the fretboard (left to the right) you shorten the string length and increase the pitch.

-If you play a string without pressing behind a fret then you are playing an Open String.

-The Open Strings from High E to Low E (thick one) are: E B G D A E. Try to remember these.  You will refer back to them often.
